The Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) under development strategy for the conservation of grouse, is promoting projects with a view to halting the regression and promote the recovery of this species in the Pyrenees, as reported by the ministry.
He notes that there are now over 1,100 kilometers of samples for evidence of grouse and its potential predators in the area of \u200b\u200bthe Pyrenees. In this context, for the fourth consecutive year, experts from the Directorate General of the Environment and Forest Policy and the Generalitat of Catalonia, have completed work for the winter grouse conservation in the High Pyrenees of Lleida.
Also explains that the English populations of grouse are an oddity in the range of the species. Isolated from other populations since the end of the last ice age, represent the southern limit of the global population, although in recent years, has been noting a regression of actual population.
According to the Working Group MARM-CCAA is estimated that the Cantabrian population is 300 to 400. However, it stresses that the population there is in "rapid and continuous decline" estimated at 50% in the west, and about 75% in the East. On the other hand, English Pyrenean population is 1,150 copies, with a stable trend in the core, and slight decrease in the peripheral area of \u200b\u200bdistribution.
During the field work this winter have been counted more than 20 observations of grouse, and allowed the discovery of a previously described behavior in the species that has yet to analyze and explain the experts in ethology of this species.
Similarly, are conducting studies in relation to potential predators of grouse, to improve knowledge about the biology and distribution of different carnivorous species. In this line, has also done work on the weasel, detected for the first time, footprints in the snow at about 1,900 meters above sea level, information of ecological significance in the context of the existing collaboration with the Government and the Parc Natural Alt Pirineu help, together with that of other species, a complete atlas of carnivores in this autonomous community.
